Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat. - Theodore Roosevelt

He also loved family barbeques when his sons and daughters and grandkids would come to visit him and his wife, Jennie, to celebrate birthdays, Father Day's and especially, his and Jennie's 70th wedding anniversary.  His first thoughts always were on the well-being of those around him. His thoughtful, loving and caring ways will be missed by all his family and those who came to know and love him. The Funeral Mass will be Saturday August 7th, 10am at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Tustin.

  2. I feel so blessed to have Great Grandpa Ralph as long as I did. I will forever have the wonderful memories of my family visits to see him and Grandma Jennie. He is a special person who left an impact on anyone he met. He lived quite a life and his wisdom, faith, love and memory will live on with all his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He will always be my grandfather with all the hats and the best lawn :-)...We love you grandpa and you will be missed more than words can say.
God Bless and watch over my Grandma Jennie...

  4. I have so many wonderful memories of my Grandpa. He will always be in my heart. He gave us all so much love and support. Always asking "How were his Buddies" Spending time with my Grandpa, having him teach me how to make hanging flower baskets, and showing me where to clip the Roses and of course always going home with a big bag of Oranges, these are just a few of many many good times we shared together. I think some of the best of the best memories will be of my childhood, going for our walks along the Barranca with my sisters... the best Easter Egg Hunts in the World... our Picnics... even watching Grandpa seed the yard was fun. I love my Grandpa, and I love the Family he created for us. Sorry for my Grandmas loss of the Love of her Life, for my Father Luis and for my Aunts and Uncles, and for my Grandpa's Laura. Sorry for us all. "Thank You Grandpa, I love you."

  5. Grandpa was a young grandfather when my sisters and I came along. He gave us love and support, all while he was raising his own family. He set an example for all of us, with the way he lived, his work ethic, and his love of family. I am so very proud of all he accomplished in his life, and of the strength and character he possessed. He will be greatly missed, I love him so much.

  6. What a long and glorius life. My father worked for Ralph for many years on the Irvine Ranch in the 60's and 70's. I remember their office in the old bunkhouse on old Barranca Road. I was just a kid at the time, but I remember how well he treated his workers, especially my father. My condolences to the Castaneda family as we mourn the loss of another one of our Irvine Ranch family members. God's blessings to all of you.
